Family: Cyprinidae

Rasboras are small, active fish native to Southeast Asia, known for their shimmering colors and elegant schooling patterns. Popular species include Harlequin Rasboras, Chili Rasboras, and Lambchop Rasboras. They are peaceful, hardy, and beginner-friendly, thriving in soft, slightly acidic water with plenty of plants. Rasboras are best displayed in groups, where their coordinated movement adds natural beauty and tranquility to any aquarium.

Recommended Tank Size: A minimum of 45 litres

  • Peaceful schooling fish; ideal for community tanks
  • Keep in groups of 6 or more to reduce stress and enhance natural behavior
  • Great companions: tetras, guppies, corydoras, small gouramis, & shrimp

Average Adult Size:

  • Body length: 2-6cm (varies by species)
  • Reach adult size within 6–8 months
  • Growth rate depends on diet and water stability and a lifespan typically between 3-5 years, with some species living longer in ideal conditions
