Rainbowfish are vibrant, fast-swimming freshwater fish native to Australia, New Guinea, and nearby islands. They are renowned for their iridescent colours that intensify with age, good diet, and proper lighting. Popular species include Boesemani, Australian, Turquoise, and Threadfin Rainbowfish. They thrive in well-planted, spacious aquariums with clean, well-filtered water. Their lively schooling behaviour and peaceful temperament make them ideal for community tanks and a beautiful showcase of Australian aquatic diversity.
Recommended Tank Size: A minimum of 40 litres
- Peaceful, schooling fish — best kept in groups of 6 or more
- Avoid fin-nippers or very small fish that may be outcompeted for food
- Provide open swimming areas with plants around the edges
