Overview
Family: Betta splendens.
Native to the shallow, slow-moving waters of Southeast Asia, Bettas are admired for their vivid colors, flowing fins, & bold personalities. They thrive in warm, stable environments with gentle water flow. Male Bettas prefer solitary living but can coexist with select peaceful tank mates. Females can be kept in groups of 5 or more. This is called a sorority. They need plenty of hiding spots & plants to feel secure and reduce stress.
Recommended Tank Size: A minimum of 20 litres
- Bettas are territorial & prefer solitary environments but may tolerate peaceful tank mates if space allows.
- Providing ample hiding spaces helps reduce stress & aggression.
Average Adult Size:
- Body length: 6–7cm
- Bettas grow relatively quickly, reaching adult size within 6–9 months with proper care.
Water Parameters:
- pH: 6.0–7.5
- Alkalinity: 3–5 KH
- General Hardness (GH): 3–5
- Temperature: 24–28°C
Food:
- High-quality Betta-specific pellets or flakes
- Frozen or live foods: Bloodworms, brine shrimp, daphnia, mosquito larvae
- Feed 1–2 small meals daily
- Remove uneaten food promptly to maintain water quality
