Overview
Family: Cichlidae
Small American cichlids include Apistogramma, Bolivian Rams, Blue Rams, and Keyhole Cichlids. They’re admired for their vibrant colors, fascinating behaviors, and manageable size, making them perfect for medium community aquariums. These fish thrive in soft, slightly acidic water and appreciate well-planted tanks with hiding spots. While generally peaceful, males can be territorial during breeding. With good care, they live 4–8 years and are a favorite among aquarists who enjoy personality-packed fish in smaller spaces.
