Gouramis are freshwater labyrinth fish native to slow-moving rivers, swamps, & rice paddies across Asia. Admired for their peaceful nature, iridescent colors, & graceful movements, Gouramis thrive in calm, well-planted aquariums with gentle filtration. They are air-breathers, using a labyrinth organ to breathe at the surface. Most species prefer living in pairs or peaceful community setups, though some males can be territorial. A quiet, stable environment with plenty of plants & hiding spots is essential for their well-being.
Recommended Tank Size: A minimum of 60 litres
- Gouramis are peaceful & social but may show territorial behavior, especially males during breeding.
- Providing dense plant cover & calm water conditions helps reduce stress & aggression.
