Overview:
Family: Pterophyllum sp.
Native to the slow-moving rivers and floodplains of the Amazon Basin in South America, angelfish thrive in warm, slightly acidic freshwater environments. They are admired for their striking patterns, calm demeanor, and fascinating social behaviors. While generally peaceful, they can become territorial during breeding. To maintain healthy angelfish, aquarists should provide a well-planted tank with stable water conditions, gentle filtration, and a varied diet of flakes, pellets, and frozen or live foods.
Recommended Tank Size: A minimum of 120 litres
- Angelfish are cichlids and can become territorial once they reach 5cm+, so more space can reduce aggression.
- For larger groups (5+), aim for 200L or more to maintain harmony.
