Overview:
Family: Symphysodon spp.
Native to the calm, warm waters of the Amazon Basin, Discus are admired for their vivid colors, round shape, and graceful swimming. They are sensitive to water quality and stress, requiring stable conditions, frequent water changes, and a peaceful environment. Discus thrive best in groups of 5 or more in tall, spacious tanks with soft, slightly acidic water and warm temperatures. Avoid aggressive tank mates and provide plenty of hiding spaces and a calm atmosphere.
Recommended Tank Size: A minimum of 200 litres
- Discus are cichlids and prefer peaceful, stable environments, but they can become territorial during breeding.
- Providing ample space helps reduce stress and aggression.
Average Adult Size:
- Body length: 15 - 20cm
- Height (including fins): Up to 20--25cm
- They are slow growers and may take 12–24 months to reach adult size with proper care.

- pH: 6.0 - 7.0
- Alkalinity: 1 - 4 KH
- General Hardness: 1 - 8 GH
- Temperature: 28–30°C
Food:
- High-quality Discus-specific pellets and flakes
- Frozen or live foods: Bloodworms, Brine shrimp, Blackworms, Daphnia
- Supplement with beef heart mix (if desired)
- Feed 2–3 small meals daily
- Remove uneaten food after 2–3 minutes to maintain water quality
